Fishing in Ft. Myers

My dad came down to Ft. Myers from Gainesville for Father's Day weekend and I booked us a fishing charter since he loves fishing.  We booked it through the Luck o' the Irish Fishing Charters and Ryan was our guide.  It was an early morning start for us at 7 am but that let us beat the heat of the day and avoid the typical Florida summer afternoon thunderstorms that we always have. Dad owns a boat but we wanted to have someone take us out who knows the area and where the best fishing spots were and we weren't disappointed.

We started catching fish quickly and went to several different spots when the one we were at started to be less happening, then we moved on to a new spot.  We caught 10 fish that were "keepers" in the 4 hours that we were out and many little fish that we had to throw back.  In total there were 7 mangrove snapper and 3 sheepshead fish (which we were told sheepshead are not common this time of year).  Dad and I had a great time and went home exhausted.  It is definitely worth it to hire a guide who knows the area and can take you to the good spots.  I think I'll be eating fish for dinner for a while!
Dad and I with our catch!
